Loot Crate alternatives that don't suck in 2026

Loot Crate is back from its 2020 bankruptcy and roughly fine. But it's not the only good subscription box out there — three are genuinely worth the spend.

Loot Crate filed for bankruptcy in 2019, got acquired in 2020, and has slowly clawed back its quality since. In 2026 it's roughly fine — but not the only good option. If you've been burned before, here's what else is out there.

1. My Geek Box (best for UK / EU readers)

UK-based, ships globally but cheapest within Europe. Smaller licensed catalog than Loot Crate but heavier on exclusives — items you can't get anywhere else. £26/month for 5-6 items. Their Marvel and DC themed boxes are the standouts.

2. Humble Choice (if you mostly want games, not collectibles)

Different product, similar value prop: $12/month gets you 8 games per month, keep them forever. If your goal is loot-box-style anticipation but you're more into video games than figurines, this is the better deal. Pro tip: pause your subscription between months — you keep your discount but skip unappealing months.

3. 1Up Box (if you want focused single-fandom boxes)

Newer subscription, focused themes. Some months are pure Studio Ghibli, some are pure Persona, etc. $32/month, 4-5 items. Quality is consistent because they only pick licenses they have deep partnerships with. Downside: if you don't love that month's theme, you'll hate the box.

What to avoid

Subscription boxes from new-in-2024 brands without a track record. The category is full of dropshipped junk dressed up as 'curated.' If a box doesn't list its previous month spoilers + reviews on a third-party site, don't subscribe.
